Review
"The universe of Sapkowski's The Witcher is one of the most detailed and best-explored in modern fantasy, offering endless opportunities for fresh ideas ... Complex character relationships enrich this already complex world; this is the sort of series fantasy fans will cherish."―B&N
"One of the best and most interesting fantasy series I've ever read. Though it functions well as adventure fiction, it has added depth and value as satire and commentary on fantasy literature ... Sapkowski is a genuine stylist."―Nerds of a Feather
"Like a complicated magic spell, a Sapkowski novel is a hodgepodge of fantasy, intellectual discourse, and dry humor. Recommended."―Time
"Like Mieville and Gaiman, [Sapkowski] takes the old and makes it new ... fresh take on genre fantasy."―Foundation on The Last Wish
"A breath of fresh air in a well-worn genre. Don't miss it!"―Dreamwatch
"Sapkowski has a phenomenal gift for narrative, inventing sensational events, creating a suggestive mood, and building up the suspense along with a dazzling, slightly cynical sense of humor."―Jacek Sieradzki, Polityka on The Last Wish
"Sapkowski's The Last Wish is a great collection of short stories centered around a witcher, Geralt - a rare sorcerous breed who hunts down the monstrous but is feared by the innocent. With a wondrous mix of Eastern European folklore and myth, beautiful princesses, mischievous demons and where all is not as it seems, The Last Wish is a great read - perfect for dipping into or just reading cover to cover, as I did."―Waterstones
"It is [his] world-weariness combined with his battle-honed powers that make Geralt such an interesting character. Here's hoping The Last Wish is merely the opening chapter in his English language adventures."―Edge
"I really, really enjoyed this book ... None of the characters in Sapkowski's world are black or white; they are all shades of grey, including Geralt and the monsters."―The Deckled Edge
"Sapkowski is very good at creating interesting, imaginative characters with unusual levels of depth to them ... The Last Wish is an enjoyable book full of stories both melancholy and comic."―The Wertzone
"This beautifully written character-based story from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski ... a refreshing champion."―The Specusphere
"New battle mechanics, a fantastic storyline, and a gritty setting make The Witcher one of the most engrossing, mature RPGs to arrive on the PC in years."―Gamespot.com on The Witcher video game
"The Witcher delivers one of the most intense and rewarding role-playing experiences this year."―GT Reviews on The Witcher video game

Great story, watch out for Amazon's mislabelling of the order the books come in
By Corrie
This story is excellent and if you have played The Witcher videogames then you will appreciate it all the more (and vice versa)
I'm really just writing this review so people don't fall into the same trap that I did and skip over Swords of Destiny before reading this one. Amazon has this labelled as Book 2 and has Swords of Destiny labelled as Book 4. That is because Swords of Destiny was published later (the English version at least), but in terms of the story this is the order I would recommend reading them in: Last Wish, Swords of Destiny, Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Tower of Swallows, and Lady of the Lake (coming out in 2017). The Last Wish and Swords of Destiny are collections of short stories, but the rest all follow a specific story arc so it is really better to at least read the rest in the order that I mentioned. Hope that helps!

Great Read (No Spoilers)
By jtoth
I was excited to read this book after reading BOTH of the short story books that precede it. It's from a different perspective than the other books. Less Geralt (more dialogue and less action) than the short story books, but it's great story telling nonetheless. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, and am excited to move onto the next installment.
**IMPORTNANT** The second shorty story book that precedes this book, which gives a TON of background information (that I cannot imagine enjoying this book as much as I did without having), never got published in English! If you enjoyed The Last Wish and are considering this book, READ THE SECOND SHORTY STORY BOOK! It's super easy to find a (very readable) fan translation! Just Google 'The Sword of Destiny fan translation' and you'll find a .pdf, .epub, and .mobi (which works on the kindle) in no time. I cannot stress how important it is to read the second short story book first! It's a great read as well. A lot of the negative reviews on Amazon are from people who didn't read the second short story book! Don't make their mistake!

Hard to say, seeing as how we begin in the middle
By Gentlemen Monkey
As much as I enjoyed Last Wish, the departure from the short story format was mildly disappointing purely because it was so darn enjoyable. I could forgive that happily were it not for the gaping hole that is the book that goes in between not being available. As much as I love Geralt and the world of the witchers, I really can't suggest this book unless/until the missing book that ties this with Last Wish is available. It's absence defies all reason and rationale. Jumping from there to here made this work, excellent though it may be in it's proper order, feel much like I was reading some bastardized fan fiction that assumes much that we are just left to guess about. This may be a fantastic work but I won't ever appreciate it as I should until some fool of a publisher figures out when telling a story the beginning is a good place to start......Find someone who hasn't read A Song of Fire and Ice series and start them on A Clash of Kings. Or if you find someone who has been living in a cave, start them on The Two Towers. See how awesome they think George RR Martin or Tolkien are when you start them off in the middle of the story.
